A Message From Kate Elliot
This September, I will help build a house. Along with nine other communications colleagues, I am part of Chicks and Mortar, a Habitat for Humanity Women Build team. Together we will raise $10,000 and be a part of the one-week build event for women in the community to help build better lives for families right here in Nova Scotia.
The Women Build program empowers women to take action and build, fundraise and advocate for simple, decent and affordable housing in Nova Scotia.
Our team will spend a day on one of Habitat Nova Scotia's build sites the week of September 19th, working to construct one of six homes they are building this year.
As part of our fundraising, one hundred per cent of the funds raised from Women Build go directly to building homes in Nova Scotia, providing a “hand up, not a hand out” to hard-working, low-income families.
One of those homes will be for Angela Lumsden and her two children, her daughter Grace (10) and son Max (2). Her new Habitat home will be located on Drysdale Road in Spryfield. For Angela, this home means that her children will have a yard to play, space to explore and the family can be part of a community. Although owning a home was always a dream for Angela, she never though it could be a reality, but thanks to Habitat for Humanity Nova Scotia, she is going to have a safe, stable home for her family.
Habitat for Humanity Nova Scotia’s Women Build is part of a global campaign that brings women together in a shared mission to help families build strength, stability and self-reliance.
Thanks in advance for supporting such an important cause!

In Support of Habitat for Humanity Nova Scotia
Since 1992, Habitat for Humanity Nova Scotia has partnered with families in the province to build safe, quality and affordable homes. We offer qualifying families in our program an affordable, no-down-payment mortgage with monthly payments that do not exceed 30 per cent of their monthly incomes. In return, they invest 500 hours in volunteer work, even helping to build their own homes. We also operate the Habitat for Humanity ReStore in Dartmouth, a building supply and home renovation store that accepts and resells new and gently-used building materials, furniture and home décor items. The ReStore helps covers Habitat for Humanity Nova Scotia’s operating costs. This ensures more of your donor dollars directly supports our mission to build more affordable homes.
